The Economics B.A. program with International Economics and Business Emphasis is eligible for freshman students who want to participate in an Eight-Semester Degree Completion Program. The plan below lists a semester-by-semester sequence of courses to finish the degree in eight semesters.

Core areas a, b, c, d, e, f, and g referred to in the eight-semester plan can be found in the Additional Fulbright College B.A. Core Requirement Areas at the bottom of this page. Core requirement hours may vary by individual, based on placement and previous credit granted. Once all core requirements are met, students may substitute a three-hour (or more) general elective in place of a core area.

Major Requirements for Economics with Emphasis in International Economics and Business:

1 Math requirements to meet ECON prerequisites are MATH 2053 and either MATH 2043 or MATH 2554; or MATH 2554 and MATH 2564.

2 6 hours Foreign Language at the Intermediate level or above, AND 3 hours of upper-division Foreign Language in the same language covering business communications or equivalent.

3 6 hours of business/statistics courses to include:

WCOB 1033 Data Analysis and Interpretation (WCOB 1120 and [MATH 2053 with grade of “C” or better or MATH 2554 with grade of “C” or better]) OR STAT 2303 Principles of Statistics

 and WCOB 1023 Business Foundations (WCOB 1120 and COMM1313 with a grade “C” or better)       

4 12 hours of International Economics and Business Electives selected from:

ECON 4653 Economics of Multinational Enterprise (ECON 2013 & 2023 OR ECON 2143)
ECON 468V International Economics and Business Seminar (ECON 2013 & 2023 OR ECON 2143)

Course pre-requisites for non-economic International Business courses will count towards this 12 hour requirement.

5 9 hours of upper division courses in Fulbright College that focus on the country/region related to student’s foreign language. Courses must be approved by academic counselor.  Students who complete requirements in the Fulbright College for an Area Studies emphasis will be considered as completing this requirement.

† Meets 40-hour advanced credit hour requirement.

‡ Meets 24-hour rule (24 hours of 3000-4000 level courses in Fulbright College), in addition to meeting the 40-hour rule.
