Summary of Procedures

It is a student’s responsibility to ascertain that requirements have been met and deadlines observed.

Degree programs may establish additional requirements.

Procedures for Master’s and Specialist Degrees

Procedure: Formation of program advisory committee and submission of Program Advisory Committee form1

Responsible Party: Major Adviser/Department Chair/Head

Action Date: Immediately following admission to degree program for those programs that use an advisory committee


Procedure:
Changes in program advisory committee by memorandum

Responsible Party: Major Adviser/Member Leaving Committee

Action Date: As soon as change occurs


Procedure:
Request transfer of credit by submitting Request for Transfer of Graduate Credit form1 (master’s degrees only)

Responsible Party: Major Adviser

Action Date: Before Graduation


Procedure:
Graduation Application Card1

Responsible Party: Student

Action Date: By end of semester in which the degree is to be awarded


Procedure:
Inclusion of name for commencement exercises, regalia, and announcement orders

Responsible Party: Student

Action Date: Deadlines indicated in “Instructions to Graduates”


Procedure:
Removal of incompletes (Change of Grade form)

Responsible Party: Student/Instructor

Action Date: When course requirements have been met


Procedure:
To avoid an incomplete becoming “F”

Responsible Party: Student/Instructor

Action Date: Change of grade form must be submitted twelve weeks into the next major semester of enrollment


Procedure:
Final comprehensive examination (Certified by submission of Record of Progress form1 with original signatures)

Responsible Party: Advisory Committee

Action Date: Must be completed by graduation

Additional Requirements for the Thesis Option

Procedure: Selection of thesis title and formation of thesis committee and submission of Master’s Thesis Title and Thesis Committee form1

Responsible Party: Thesis Director/Department Chair/Head

Action Date: At least three months prior to the date of the defense


Procedure:
Obtain Guide for Preparing Theses and Dissertations from the Web

Responsible Party: Student

Action Date: Before first draft of thesis is typed


Procedure:
Defense of thesis

Responsible Party: Thesis Committee

Action Date: At least one week before graduation


Procedure:
Registration for at least six hours of thesis

Responsible Party: Student

Action Date: Before graduation


Procedure:
Submission of preliminary copies to each thesis committee member

Responsible Party: Student

Action Date: At least three weeks before graduation


Procedure:
Preliminary editorial check of thesis

Responsible Party: Student

Action Date: Before final copies of thesis are made


Procedure:
Final copies of thesis to Graduate School and to Mullins Library

Responsible Party: Student submits to Graduate School; Graduate School submits to Library

Action Date: To allow thesis to be submitted to the Graduate School at least one week before graduation

Procedures for Doctoral Degrees

Responsible Party: Advisory Committee

Action Date: Before beginning work on the dissertation


Procedure:
Enrollment in at least one hour of graded graduate course work or dissertation credit following passing of candidacy exams

Action Date: Each semester (including summer) until graduation


Procedure:
